Fincas, chalets, casas de campo
Country house locksmith in Elda and out to the Pinoso vineyards
A country property has far more locks than a flat: the drive gate, the pedestrian gate, the shed, the well house, the grilles, the terrace slider and, last of all, the front door. One visit can deal with all of them.

Who this is for
Country houses from the hills of Petrer to the Pinoso vineyards
Around Elda, the countryside is lived in. Petrer has chalets on urbanisations such as Loma Bada and out in the partida of Caprala, and Elda has chalets on large plots around Campo Alto. Further west, Monóvar and Pinoso are wine country, and Pinoso in particular has drawn people from abroad: almost a quarter of its 8,854 residents are foreign nationals, with 777 British and 302 Dutch residents at the start of 2026.
If you are one of them, you may be more at ease explaining a stuck gate in English, or you may spend part of the year somewhere else. This page is for you, and for anyone else with gates, fences and outbuildings to look after.
Every lock on the land
What gets looked at on a country property
-
Drive and pedestrian gates
Gate locks that have seized, bolts that no longer meet the keep because the gate has dropped, and locks changed when a property changes hands.
-
Padlocks and chains
Rusted or keyless padlocks cut off without harming the hasp, and replaced with ones made to stand the weather.
-
Sheds, garages and well houses
The outbuildings where the tools, the pool equipment or the pump live, and which are often on the oldest locks on the property.
-
Window grilles
Grilles with a lockable opening section, kept so that they can be opened from inside in a hurry and not from outside at all.
-
Terrace sliders
Aluminium sliding doors whose latch no longer catches, or whose lock has worn out.
-
The house doors
Front and back doors, handled as on a lock change: a better cylinder where one is needed.
Weather
Sun, dust and cold nights on outdoor locks
The Elda valley is dry and inland: about 345 mm of rain a year, hot summers and winter nights that occasionally drop below freezing. A lock on a gate gets all of it with nothing in the way. Dust works into the cylinder, metal gates expand in the afternoon sun, and padlocks left untouched for months seize. Most of that is fixed with cleaning, the right lubricant and an adjustment, and is cheaper caught early than after the lock has given up.
The guide on counting every lock on a finca is a checklist you can walk round with.
A visit
How a country property visit works
-
A location pin and a list
Send the pin and, if you can, a photo of each lock you are worried about.
-
A walk round with you or your key holder
Every lock is looked at, and you get the options with a price for each before anything is done.
-
Done in the same visit where possible
Common parts travel in the van, so whenever the part is on board, the job is finished there and then.
-
Photos for owners who are away
If you are abroad, you get photos of the finished work.
After a break-in at a country property, start with repairs after a burglary. For a safe in the house, see safe locks. The towns covered are on the coverage page, and every way to reach us is on the contact page.
Questions
Questions from owners of country properties
The padlock on the shed has rusted solid and nobody has the key.
It can be cut off without damaging the hasp, and a new padlock fitted if you want one. Before cutting, you are asked to show that the property is yours, as with any lock.
We bought the finca with a bag of unlabelled keys. Where do we start?
With the locks that keep people out: the drive gate, the pedestrian gate and the house doors. Those are the ones to change first, because you cannot know who else was given a key over the years. Sheds and outbuildings can follow on the same visit.
We spend half the year in the UK. Can you deal with our key holder instead of us?
Yes, with your written permission by email or WhatsApp naming that person, and their ID on the day. You can be on the phone while the work is done, and you get photos of it afterwards.
The lock on the drive gate gets stiff every summer.
A gate lock out in the sun takes heat, dust and rain directly. Often it needs cleaning and the right lubricant rather than replacing; if the gate itself has dropped, it is adjusted so the bolt meets the keep again.
Is Salinas too far out?
No. Salinas is covered, as are Pinoso, Monóvar, Petrer and the rest of the towns around Elda. Out in the countryside, send a location pin rather than an address.

High-security locks
A forced door made to lock again the same day, then a stronger set-up once the police report and the insurer are dealt with.

Repairing the lock you already have
Old surface-mounted locks replaced, snap-resistant cylinders fitted, tired multipoint mechanisms put right, on a day that suits you.
Lock change & repair -
Opening a locked safe
Safes that reject the code, have lost their key or belong to someone who is no longer around to open them, plus new safes fitted.
Safe opening
A gate, a shed or a padlock that will not give?
WhatsApp a location pin and a photo of the lock. Out in the campo, the pin matters more than the address.
